This last week has been a very busy and interesting week in the life of Dallace J! It seems the media events are happening at a rapid rate these days and I am becoming concerned about accommodating them all in my diary! I have often said that I really wish someone would hurry up and perfect cloning...it has now been moved up to Priority Number One on My Wish List! I need at least three of me to successfully wear the number of hats I am required to wear at the number of different venues at which my presence is required. Please do not misunderstand me, I am not complaining at all! I have more fun in my ‘job’ than should be legal (perhaps it isn’t?).

This past week has been a sad one. It was with great sadness that I was told Colleen van Eyk (Resort PR and Gaming Marketing Manager at Sun City) was found dead on Monday, February 15. Colleen was the consummate lady and truly was the Doyenne of Sun City’s PR and marketing team. She was due to retire this year so her death was untimely in more ways than one. I shall certainly miss her gentle, smiling face. Rest in Peace Colleen, you shall be remembered fondly by all who knew you. The casino industry has suffered a great loss.

My column this week is short and sweet. On a recent trip to Sun City I got to thinking and remembered the days when the drive to Sun City was much longer than it is today and it was a far, far away place shrouded in mystery which we visited only on very special occasions. My how things have changed since those days in the 70s!

Let me say right up front that I don’t do Valentine’s Day, so the title of my column is not about love and romance...it’s also not about the tremendous winning that is currently taking place in the casinos of Jozi (you can read more about that inside this week’s issue). But it is about spreading another kind of love. The kind they are likely referring to in the idiom “All is fair in love and war.†Now this idiom suggests normal morality is often suspended in extreme circumstances. Some people agree with that. I am not one of those people. I do not believe morality should ever be suspended. That may be a naive outlook, but it sits well in my gut. Did I mention that in addition to not doing Valentine’s Day, I don’t do double standards either?

Two gamblers were talking. One turned to the other and asked: “Are you superstitious?†His friend replied: “I used to be, but then I heard it was unlucky so I stopped.â€
